- William Green's Declaration, September 11th, 1832: Was drafted in September, 1776, under Capt. John Lewis, to serve three months at Warrie's Fort against the Indians; again in May, 1777, was drafted by order of Col. John Dickinson, at the request of John Wilson, to defend Wilson's Fort on Jackson's River; again in September, 1777, to defend Clover Lick Fort in the Company of Capt. Samuel Vance; again in 1778, served under Capt. Samuel McCutchen under Gen. McIntosh at Fort McIntosh; again, in 1780, under Capt. John McCoy; again, in June, 1781, under Capt. David Gwinn; in 1782 under Capt. George Poage at Warwick's Fort.

- Greene, Wiliam, entered service 1776 in Augusta County, Virginia, where he was born in 1755; Pensioned 1833 in Bath County, Virginia, where he died 6/2/1839; married there 5/25/1819 Elizabeth Drinen/Drinnen; widow Pensioned at age 59, Highland County (area formerly Bath County), Virginia, 1853; granted Bounty Land Warrent #36282 there in 1855; soldier surname also spelled Green; query letter in file states soldier's daughter Martha A. married Richard Killingsworth. - Pension Application of William Greene:
- The Commonwealth of Virginia — Bath County to wit,
- On this 11th day of June 1833 personally appeared before the Justices of the County Court of Bath in the state of Virginia now sitting in open court William Green aged about seventy seven years who being first duly sworn according to Law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832
- That he is a resident of this county That he was born in the year 1755 in the County of Augusta in this state. That he was drafted in September in the year 1776 to serve as a private a three months tour of duty as a guard against the Indians at Warwick fort on the frontiers of Augusta County in this state [now Huttonsville District of Randolph County WV] and was commanded by Captain John Lewis. That he served his said tour of three months but received no regular discharge. He states that in May 1777 John Wilson applied to Colonel John Dickenson who was in command of the Regiment of Militia in Augusta County for six men that he was drafted as one to guard Wilson’s fort on Jackson river in the said County of Augusta [now Alleghany] against the Indians and that he served three months. That in September 1777 he was drafted to and did serve three months to guard the frontiers at Cloverlick fort [in present Pocahontas County WV] against the Indians that the company was commanded by Captain Samuel Vance of Augusta County in this state that he received no written discharge. He states that in the year 1778 he was again drafted to serve a tour of duty and did serve four months against the Indians on Jacksons River in the then said County of Augusta and marched to the mouth of big Beaver Creek on the west sided of the Ohio River at Fort McIntosh [25 mi NW of Pittsburgh PA] under the command of Captain Samuel McCutcheon who was under the command of General [Lachlan] McIntosh but was not in any engagements. He further states that in 1780 he was drafted with the militia to go to Norfolk for a three months tour of duty and was under the command of Captain John M cCoy he marched to Richmond and served twenty four days and was then discharged but received no written discharge.
- That in June 1781 he was drafted and served thirty four days after joining the army near Hickory Neck [probably Hickorynut Church] near Williamsburg under the command of Captain David Gwin of Augusta County at which place he saw General LaFayette and Colonel William Campbell. He further states that in 1782 he was again drafted and did serve as a private a three months tour of duty and was under the command of George Poage at Warwicks fort on the frontiers of Augusta County. That he is not in possession of any docum entary evidence by which he can establish the fact of his services as above set forth. That he does not know of any person now living by whom he could prove the same. That there is no Minister of the Gospel residing in his neighborhood. That Alexander Hamilton [pension application S9556] and Alexander Benson are his neighbors who will testify as to his character for veracity and their belief as to his services as a revolutionary soldier. That he has no record of his age. That he hereby relinquishes very claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state.

- NOTE: On 20 Oct 1853 in Highland County VA Elizabeth Greene, 58, applied for a pension stating that she married William Greene on 20 May 1819, and he died 2 Jun 1839. On 27 Sep 1855 she applied for bounty land, adding that her name was Elizabeth Drinnen at the time she was married by Rev. Otho Wade in the part of Bath County that became Highland County.
