The initials "W.M.R. (Gray)" were used on his marriage license, seen and photographed by Jim and Erma Williams on 26 May 2005 in the Trenton, GA Courthouse Records repository. (See at left) Except for the 1870 census in Dade County,, GA with his father, this is the only other time we have heard of the "M" initial in his name, although we have family letters about him. It is very probable that the "M" is for Michael, named after his paternal grandfather, William Michael Gray and his maternal grandfather, Rufus S. Keith. By Jim Williams

On May 5, 1946, Minnie Rush Treadaway sent a letter with invaluable family history information to Mrs. Maggie Adcock. Please click the following link for additional information on this letter:S4

"Ancestors and Descendants of William Rufus Gray" This spiral-bound and self-published book was written by Robert Boykin for his very dear friend, Dennis Hendricks Gray, a great grandson of William Rufus Gray by his third wife, Mary Fannie Hill. In 2005 Dennis sent me a copy. Dennis was in ill health and died before 2010, according to a cousin recently. Although some information in the book I have found to be in error, the places of birth and death, for which this is a "source", remain uncontested. I personally visited Great-grandpa Gray in his El Dorado, AR home shortly before his death and took a photo of his Camp Creek Cemetery tombstone in 1992.
