Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 2, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :
- Gray, William, b. 1757 Augusta County (area later Rockbridge County), Virginia; moved at age 10 with father to Tryon County (area later Rutherford County), North Carolina, where he entered service 1776-77; moved to Washington County, Virginia, where he entered service; moved to Washington County, NOrth Carolina, where entered service 1781; moved to Rutherford County, North Carolina, thence Sumner County (area later Wilson County), Tennessee, where he was pensioned in 1832 when younger brother Samuel made affidavit that soldier married during Revolutionary War to woman mentioned but not named; query letter in file 1924 from descendant Miss Grace O. Davis, Chicago, Illinois. F-S3410, R1116.

Some sources claim that this William Gray married a Jane Thornburg in 1774 in Randolph County, NC. Additional research necessary to determine which is correct.
