Notes from Friend family historian LaVerne Mast Fullmer: After the death of his mother (Sarah), William lived most of the time with friends of the family, working on farms and attending school, in which he manifesed a great interest. About 1856 he came to Pleasantville and lived with his grandmoter. He attended college at Denison University, Granville, Ohio, and at the Fairfield Union Academy in Pleasantville. He taught school from 1861 until 1867, then he entered business with his father in the store on the square. He held many public offices and always worked for the betterment of schools, politics and business. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Pleasantville. He took a keen interest in better methods of farming, being one of the early breeders of Merion sheep and Shorthorn cattle. References
