Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

• William Frazier received a patent for 157 acres "on south side of Shanandore, 2 mile run" on 25th September, 1746, as listed in dispositions below.

• Vol. 2 - LAND ENTRY BOOK NO. 1, AUGUSTA COUNTY. - 1749, April 14th-- William Fraizer, 200 acres on Stoney Run, Stover's tract, below (the) Dutch Smith.

• Vol. 2 - LAND ENTRY BOOK NO. 1, AUGUSTA COUNTY. - 1751, May 7th-- William Fraizer, 400 (acres), Fraizer (Frazier's) tract.

• Page 266.--15th May, 1762. William ( ) Frazier to John Heterick, £10, 28 acres on Shanando patented to Wm., 10th March, 1756; Stover's line, Haine's Bottom. Teste: Jacob Nicolas, Peter Miller, Peter Brisler (Treslar).

• Page 158.--26th August, 1768. David ( ) Frazeir, eldest son and heir of William Frazier, deceased, and Barbara, ( ) to Gabriel Jones, attorney at law, £45, a certain island called the Great Island, 54 acres in Shanandore River, nearly opposite the plantation whereon Jones lives, patented to William Frazier, 20th June, 1753. Delivered: Jacob Kinney per order, 6th April, 1804.

• Page 369.--17th August, 1772. David ( ) Frazier and Barbara ( ) to George Conrad, £90, 157 acres patented to William Frazier, deceased, father to said David, 25th September, 1746, on south side of Shanandore, 2 mile run. Delivered: Geo. Conrod, August Court, 1776.

• Vol. 1 - Hetrick vs. Hetrick.--Chancery. Filed 28th August, 1768. In 1752-53, John Hetrick, defendant, brother of Caspar Hetrick, orator, went from Pennsylvania to the back part of this Colony and purchased land from John Bombgardner and then returned to Pennsylvania, where orator then lived. Land was cheap and the range for cattle good and fresh. Orator and defendant came to Virginia and settled on the land bought by John. William Frazer had entered a piece of land near which he gave to orator, but John sold it to Peter Tresser. This caused trouble between the brothers and orator built his own house on first piece of land. Orator heard defendant would not give him the land and removed his family to the house of Adam1 Hetrick and sent his neighbors, Valentine Pence and Frederick Harmentrout, to defendant, to know his intentions. Orator moved back on the land and had been living there 14 years in 1768. Bill to compel John to convey to him. (Note: the bold text refers to the 28 acres that William Frazier sold John Hetrick in 1762, listed above).
