William traveled from his ancestral home in Scotland with his wife and children to the United States in 1832. Arriving in New York they relocated to Northwest Ohio and settled initially at Perrysburg. They were living on the west side of the site of Fort Meigs when William was taken ill and died. His grave site is unknown but assumed to be on that property. His name is engraved on the tombstone of his son Robert Dunnipace at the Webster Township Cemetery near Scotch Ridge where all of the family had moved except his youngest son James.
