Maj. William Davidson was born in 1739, the son of a John Davidson. He died in 1814 near the present Raleigh, North Carolina. He had also a son George Davidson. He was a cousin of another William Davidson, who later moved to Tennessee.

18. Maj. William D.3 Davidson (John (Old John) Davidson2 Davison, William1 ) was born 10 Oct 1736 in Shankill Par., Co. Armagh, Ireland, and died 16 May 1814 in Swannanoa, Buncombe, NC. He married Margaret McConnell 1758 in Rowan Co., NC, daughter of John McConnell and Mary Winslow. She was born 1748 in prob. PA, and died 13 Nov 1806. Notes for Maj. William D. Davidson: William Davidson (1736-1814) commanded a company in the Rowan County, North Carolina militia. He was born in Lancaster County, Pa. (or Ireland before the family moved); died in Buncombe County, N. C.
