Stone Church Cemetery, Augusta County, VA:
This humble tribute is offered to the Memory of William Craig and Jane his wife who by his request reposed in the common grave. William departed this life 8th September 1829. Aged 70 years. Jane departed this life June 9, 1811, 67 yrs.

  • Page 147.--Hugh Allen's estate in account with the administrator--To paid William Craig, who married the widow, her one-third; to paid Capt. John Campbell for soldier's bounty; to paid Robt. Rhodes for schooling orphans; to paid Archibald Dixon for soldier's bounty. (Note: this record proves that William Craig married Hugh Allen's widow).

William Craig (3), born January 8, 1750; died September 8, 1829; married in 1778, Jean Anderson, born 1744; died June 9, 1811, daughter of John Anderson, and widow of Lieutenant Hugh Allen who was killed in the battle of Point Pleasant in 1774. William Craig served during the Revolution as a private from 1778 to 1781 in the company of Captain John Givens.
