29 Jan 1780 - Deed. WIlliam Clayton bought 150 acres from Moses Martin for 200 Pounds on both sides of Mill Creek of Town Fork at James Martin's corner. Signed by Moses Martin. Witnesses were William Hill and Parish (X) Sims.

7 Jun 1781 - Will of William Clayton, Surry Co.,NC. "State of North Carolina Surry County this day come David Evans and James Martin before, me a Justic of the peace for said County and made oath upon the Holy Evengilies of Almighty God that David Eavins and James Martin was at the House of William Clayton upon the 10th day of March last at--- which time the said William Clayton seemd desirous to make his will an being ill with the small pox had not the opportunity of getting any person to write for him Desired that his Estate might be divided Betwixt his wife and children as follows(to wit) first and foremost it was his desire that his WIFE ELIZABETH CLAYTON should have a negro woman named Sarah and one gray mare as Long as she remaind so to SON PHILLIP one negro Boy calld. James, to his SON WILLIAM CLAYTON one negro Boy call'd Amos 1 mare and Colt and saddle and one Cow and Calf, to his SON JESSE on negro Boy call'd Tom and one one hors colt to his DAUGHTER MARY CLAYTON one Roan Horse, to his DAUGHTER ANN one Horse Creature, his I and to be Eqully Devided between his TWO SONS WILLIAM & JESSE the remainder of his Estate to be Equally between the rest of his children ELIZABETH CLAYTON, ELENER CLAYTON and CHARITY CLAYTON, further the deponant says that they understood, that it was his Desire, tht if his wife remand a widdow that should have the Disposial of what she had Left her, James Martin June the 7th 1781 David Eavins Richd.(Richard) Goode J.
