    "And as your Family are said to have come to this Country from
    England, they may have belonged there. I have seen references to the
    name in England - whether native there, or settled from Scotland, does
    not appear. I give one such late reference below. The search for
    others (mislaid and not found) delayed this letter too long. "Chevis,
    William, 2nd son of James, of Andover, Hants. Gent: Balliol Coll:
