Butler, William - entered service 1781 in Culpeper County, Virginia, as substitute for Joseph Butler; born 1762 in Fauquier County, Virgina; moved after Revolutionary War, moved to Bourbon County, Kentucky, where resided for 40 years, thence to Lincoln County, Missouri, where received Pension in 1833; record of 2nd Virginia Regiment states soldier's wife was Mary. R439.

1. Wiliam was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Unit: Virginia Continental Line. Applied for pension in Fauquier Co, VA, 23 Jan 1788. Land warrant 100 acres.
2. He and Katrina migrated rom Maryland to Bourbon Co KY prior to 1790 Probably about 1787.

"One dollar each to the following children, to wit, Francis Butter, Moses Butter, Ann Buchanan, Polly Snedigar, Susannah (surname not given), Ichabod Butter, Elizabeth Yokem, Dudley Butter, Amelia Bramble & Bledsoe Butter. " Executrix, wife Polly. Witnesses: Jesse Wagner, J.M. Parson & Rollins Trail. Recorded 10 August 1843. (A:119)

12. Source 325 gives a birth date of 1756.
13. Source 341 gives DOB 1756. Place: Maryland.
14. William Butler, 516671, Virginia Line. Soldier was born 1762 in Fauquier Co., Virginia and lived in Culpepper Co., VA at enlistment. In April 1781 moved back to Fauquier Co, VA and also enlisted there as a substitute for Joseph Butler (relationship not stated). Soldier married and moved to Bourbon Co, KY for 40 years, then moved on to Liancoln Co, MO and applied there on 4 November 1833.
15. According to Randy John, there are 2 William Butlers, both Revolutionary War veterans, living in Lincoln Co., Missouri in 1840. One was born in 1762, the other born in 1756.
