Facts and Events
According to Bob Mitchell: William Blakeney and family are found on the 1800 Chesterfield Co., SC US Census with 2 male children under 10 years, 2 male children between 16 and 25 and 2 female children under 10 years. He had 16 slaves. Janie: I find several researchers that say William Blakeney (1763-1808) married a second time to Leah Shehorn. Other researchers say that Leah married William Blakeney Jr. (1790-?). Assuming William Jr. was at least 21 when he married, that would have put his marriage at about 1811; so it is possible but unlikely that William Jr. was the father of Thomas Blakeney b 1807. There is confusion about Thomas Blakeney, son of William Blakeney. There appears to have been two Thomas Blakeneys in the area at the same time. One born in 1800 or 1802 and died in 1892 in Fayette, Alabama; the other born 1807, died in 1896. I've seen rootsweb charts attribute both Thomases to William but that doesn't sound likely to me. More research is needed here. References
