Will of William Aduddell

I, William Adduddle of Merion, in the County of Philadelphia being weak in body , but of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and Testament in the manner and form following (that is to say) I desire to be buried in a decent & Christian like manner and that all of my debts be paid and discharged, and, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife my best bed with all its appearances and all the furniture of the best room in the house and the best cow on the place. Also the Mallahoe girl .......... friends arrears to be paid her yearly by my sons William and John whilst they keep the place in their names as also the best room in the house together with sufficient firewood delivered by the house.

Also I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Harding the sum of 25 pounds to be paid her by my executors in one year after my decease if the place is sold in one year after the sale thereof.

Also I give to my grandson John King five pounds and also to my grandson William Elliott the like sum of five pounds.

Also I give to my son William all my wearing apparel excepting my hat which I give to my son James.

Also I give and bequeath to my son John the three year old black colt and the bay yearling colt and ten pounds in cash and also my little boy Billy until he comes of age.

And lastly I give and devise my house and plantation with every of its appurtances unto my sons William and John (under the payment of the above mentioned ten pounds bequeathed to my wife as aforesaid) to hold to them my said sons joynt Tennant until they together with my wife shall dispose of and sell the same - who I do hereby contribute and appoint executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby fully empowering them to sell and convey the same in as full and ample a manner as I could or mought have done and after the sale thereof and the discharge of my debts and payment of the above legacies it is my will that the remainder of all my estate whatsoever be equally divided between my widow and three sons, William, James and John, share and share alike, and I do hereby declare this to be my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the Second day of August anno Domino One thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Eight.

above named Adduddle to be his last will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as Witnesses in the presence of the Testator.

John Roberts, John Fritch, Gershom Hoff.

Philadelphia. Nov. 14, 1768 Personally appeared John Roberts and Gershom Hoff two of the witnesses to the foregoing will and the said John Roberts on his Solem affirmation according to law and Gershom Hoff on oath did respectively declare that they saw and heard William Adduddle the Testator therein named sign seal and publish and declare the same will for and as his last Will & Testament and that at the doing thereof he was of sound and disposing mind and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief.
