"Walter Edmunds (John) was born about 1595, probably in some parish near Nottingham. About 1610 his parents moved into Nottingham where his father was a felt maker. … About 1619 Walter Edmund and his wife Dorothy were married. The next year the first of their children was baptized at Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, which is about 35 miles NNE of Nottingham down the River Trent toward the Humber. Five children were baptized there.
Walter Edmunds was one of the two constables of Gainsborough chosen for the year 1620, … He was a church warden at Gainsborough for 1623. Between 1626 and the spring of 1628 Walter Edmunds an his family moved back to Nottingham where six more children were born and baptized, of whom two died shortly. …
Probably in the spring of 1638 Walter Edmunds and his family sailed for New England. He had five to eight children with him. He next appears on record at Concord, Massachusetts, where he was made a freeman on 22 May 1639. The next year he was chosen constable. Within a few years, the family moved to Charlestown where, with his wife Dorothy, he was admitted to the church on 21 March 1651/2. …
Walter Edmunds died 13 July 1667. He had made his will 30 May before and it was proved 27 September following following. In it he bequeathed to his wife Dorothy and sons Joshua, Daniel and John, and his daughter [Mary] Potter of Concord. His widow died 11 September 1671 at Charlestown."
