Uriah was once a guard at Mattawan State Prison, Beacon, NY. On 6/4/1901 he applied in Poughkeepsie, NY, for a disability pension from the army. He had been a private in Co. L, 6th Regt., NYH Artillery in November 1862, organized at Yonkers, NY. He attempted to stop some bounty jumpers, by wading waste deep in the Rapidan River in the Mine Run Campaign, and was disabled from the cold. In September 1864 he was still disabled and unable to march to the Shenandoah Valley with his company. He was discharged 7/19/1865. |
