Obituary in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Saturday, 22 November, 2008

Haibach, Ulrich'

Pojoaque, NM: Age 59, died suddenly October 25, 200~.

Ulrich was born in Uelzen, Germany in 1949, immigrated to the U.S. in 1952 and was raised in Rochester. He xcelled academically, musically and as a competitive swimmer. He attended Colgate University on a scholarship, majoring in physics. Ulrich was very intelligent and loved working on complicated problems, whether it was tearing something apart or building something anew. After living and working in Arizona, Idaho and New Jersey, he made Santa Fe his home in 1993.

His social grace, kindness, generosity, and self-effacing humor won the hearts of almost anyone fortunate enough to get a glimpse of this essentially shy person. He also loved a good argument which afforded a venue for his constantly well-informed and incisive intellect, expounding forthright opinions without apology. Ulrich loved his home, animals, beautiful music, good food, challenging problems and a well spent day at the range with companions. All who knew and loved are shocked and saddened by the unexpected loss of this brilliant being.

His loss is mourned by his beloved life partner, Lucy Cornwell; his mother, Margarethe Haibach; sister, Anne Warden; brother, Martin Haibach, six nieces and nephews, their children, and innumerable devoted friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ulrich Haibach Memorial Fund at the Espanola Valley Humane Society, 108 Hamm Parkway, Espanola, NM 87532 ..

A Memorial Service will be held at Christ the Good Shepherd Church, 1000 North Winton Rd., Rochester on Friday Nov. 28th at 11:OO AM.
