"Timothy Barnes, third son of Thomas Barnes, was born in Southington, Conn., bap. Apr. 1,1739 ; married Mariam, daughter of Abraham Miller, March 19, 1760; was appointed administrator of the estate of Abraham Miller in 1765; enlisted in the Continental army, was mustered in Aug. 19, and discharged Sept. 25, 1776. In the spring of '78, in the darkest hours of the American Revolution, he moved his large family into the Berkshire hills of Massachusetts, arriving at West Stockbridge on the 8th of June: he purchased a tract of land in a beautiful valley and on the hillside near, what now is, Williamsville, about one mile west of the village of Housatonic: where he lived until his death. He died March 12, 1831, aged 92 years."
