THOMAS KELSEY WATKINS was born on 7 Feb 1825 at Washington Township,
Montgomery County, Ohio, son of DANIEL WATKINS and NANCY KELSEY. Thomas was
the third child in a large family of nine boys and two girls. His family
moved from Ohio to Indiana in 1831 when he was 6.
He married SIDNEY
CATHERINE LEWIS, daughter of JAMES HARVEY LEWIS and ELEANOR NEALE, on 27
Oct 1847 at Putnam County, Indiana, at the age of 22. They were the parents
of seven children, five girls and two boys. He and SIDNEY CATHERINE LEWIS
appeared on the census of 1850 at Scott Township, Montgomery County,
Indiana. The family moved from Indiana to Kankakee County, Illinois
between the birth of Caroline in 1854 and Daniel in 1856. They were back
in Indiana by 1880. He was a Farmer in 1860. He and SIDNEY CATHERINE
LEWIS appeared on the census of 1860 at Yellowhead, Kankakee County,
Illinois. He and SIDNEY CATHERINE LEWIS appeared on the census of 1880 at
Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana. He was a Huxter (aka Huckster -
someone who sells small wares) in 1880.
He appeared on the census of 1900
at Center Township, Delaware County, Indiana. He is living in the household
of his daughter Mary Watkins Baty. He appeared on the census of 1910 at
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. He is a roomer in the household
of Roy and Ivy Curmutt. Roy is his grandson through eldest daughter Nancy
and her husband William Curmutt. Nancy is also living with them, listed as
Ella.
He died on 30 Jul 1920 at age 95.
