↑ There is a death record of Thomas Underwood in Watertown 17 Jun 1691 (Vol. 1, p. 64 of Watertown Records). It is commonly applied to this man, but no corresponding probate is found, and it seems possible that it might have been his 14-day old son of the same name since it is recorded right next to the birth, and nothing is really found for that son after his birth (or less likely, it could be another unrelated and unidentified person of that name). Two deeds by Thomas and Mary Underwood of Watertown in 1694 and 1697 (Middlesex Deeds Vol. 10, p. 383, Vol. 12, p. 624) support this supposition. This challenges a couple other commonly accepted ideas about the Underwood family as well.
