OUR LINE AT COUGHTON COURT: Our family was there for three generations beginning with John, the above Thomas and his son John.

Thomas was Lord of the manors of Throckmorton, Black Nauton, Hill and More, Coughton, Spernore and Weston. He married Margaret, daughter and heir of Robert Olney, of Weston Underwood, Buckinghamshire, and his wife Goditha Judith Bosum, she daughter and heir of Sir William Bosum, Lord of Roxton, Bedfordshire.

Thomas served as knight of the shire for Worcester, 1447, and was under commission with the Abbot of Evesham, with several others, for levying archers in Worcestershire for defense of the kingdom. He was also appointed steward of all castles and manors controlled by the Bishop of Worcester, and served as high sheriff for the counties of Warwick and Leicester. For his service to Edward, Prince of Wales, he was appointed attorney-general of the Prince, 20 February 1457. He was also appointed receiver of the Lordship of Glamorgan and Morgannock for the Earl of Warwick in 1464. Thomas died in 1472, and was buried at Fladbury.

Sir Thomas Throckmorton was the son of Sir John de Throckmorton and Eleanor de Spineto. He lived at Coughton, Warwickshire, England. He lived at Coughton Court, Gloucestershire, England. He held the office of High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 1403/4. He held the office of High Sheriff of Warwickshire in 1403/4.

Thomas achieved gaining more land. By an exchange of land from his estates in Worcestershire on 29 May 1449, he obtained the other part of Coughton which had gone to his mother's sister, Alice, who had married William Tracy of Toddington in Gloucestershire.

As well as obtaining the whole of Coughton for the Throckmortons, Thomas also enlarged the family property and wealth by a fortunate marriage. He inherited the estate of the Olneys at Weston Underwood in Buckinghamshire, which remain in the family until the 1890's.

Thomas's son, Robert, began the family's long association with the Tudor monarchy, which at times was profitable, always dangerous and ultimately fateful. These Throckmortons were firm Roman Catholics. When King Henry the VIII established the Anglican Church of England, the Throckmortons were made to pay a monthy fine for not attending the Church of England and were later imprisoned in the Tower of London.
