"24—Thomas Selden, 3d (Joseph6), b, 1684, Hadley, Mass., died September 12, 1754; some records give the date as May 2, 1756. The estate that he received from his father comprised all the lands that his father had bought from Mr. Stone in Haddam. A petition from Thomas Selden, May, 1740, shows that his farm, by mistake, was included in the parish of Middle Haddam; he asserted that 'I live four and a half miles from the new meeting house, and the highway is exceeding bad, and I dwell within a mile of the meeting house in Haddam where I steadily attend worship, and I desire to be returned for my rates to Haddam proper'. This the General Assembly granted. On the tax list for Haddam in 1739, he was rated at £160.18. This Thomas Selden was awarded a grant of land, as a reward for his father's services in the 'Fall's Fight', he being the oldest living son."
