Facts and Events
Name Thomas Morrow
Gender Male
Birth[1] 7 MAR 1765 Chester Co, SC
Death[1] 16 NOV 1846 Logan Co, KY

Thomas first appears in Logan County in 1809. There are three deeds recorded (back to back to back on the same days in 1809) where Thomas bought his complete tract of 671 3/4 acres on the Whipperwill Creek in Logan County, KY from James Mitchell. This all conforms to the tax records. Of interest HUGH MORROW (this man) attested all three deeds. Hugh was likely the father of Thomas's son-in-law Matthew Morrow.

Various sources give slightly different versions of Thomas's wife and children:

- Morrow and Related Families names children as (1) Mary, who married James Glasgow; (2) John who married Mary Sutton 8 Nov 1805 Logan Co Ky (3) Moses Morrow (his parents gave him land in Logan Co in July 1818); (4) Matthew Morrow. He died before his father..."

- Ray lists children as: Ray lists the children of Thomas Morrow and Janet McCarty: (1) Mary (2) James (3) Thomas (4) Margaret (5) Elizabeth (6)Sarah (7) John (8) Annie (9) Jennie.

- Five Morrow Men: Heirs of Thomas Morrow: (1)James Glasgow's heirs,(2) John Morrow heirs; (3)Matthew Morrow & wife Polly Morrow; (4)Isaac Talkington & wife Eliza Morrow m.1824; (5)James Morrow m. Polly Scott; (6)David T. Lee and wife Sally Morrow m. 29 Sept 1822 Logan Co; (7)John Rutherford and wife Jane Morrow m. 1822 Todd Co Ky (Jane Morrow m. Wm Britt 24 Aug 1813 Logan. Same person?); (8)Ann Thompson, (9)Thomas Morrow born c1800 SC.

The last entry from Five Morrow Men obviously worked from the 1847 estate settlement that lists Thomas's children. The heirs are listed as follows:

  • 1 - James Glasgow’s heirs
  • 2 - John Morrow’s heirs
  • 3 - Moses Morrow’s heirs
  • 4 - Matthew Morrow & wife
  • 5 - Thomas Morrow
  • 6 - Isaac Talkington & wife
  • 7 - James Morrow
  • 8 - David T. Lee & wife
  • 9 - John Rutherford & wife
  • 10 - Ann Thompson

The conventions of this list are that the sons are listed by their names only, with no mention of a wife, and daughters are listed in the names of their husbands as "& wife." Matthew Morrow, who according to Logan County marriage records married Polly Morrow, is not Thomas and Jane's son. Rather, Polly is their daughter.

DNA

Originally thought to be a son of “Old Samuel” of Spartenburg, differences in the DNA between the Thomas descendant and others descended from related men put Thomas more likely here, with known son of David and Agnes, David m. Margaret Kelso.... BUT that finding depends on nailing down whether John m. Mary Sutton (the ancestor of the DNA participant) was actually Thomas’s son. Although historically linked together because Thomas was in Logan Co, KY by 1810 and John married in Logan Co, KY in 1805, there was at least one other Morrow family in Logan County at the time.
