Fourth son of John MAGUIRE (born 1693), of Co Cavan, by his wife Martha BUCK; grandson of Bryan McConagher MAGUIRE, a retired Jacobite Officer (Seige of Crom Castle, 1689) later of Clara, near Redhills, Co Cavan, by his Protestant wife Mary LLOYD; sib to Matthew, John, William & Martha. Probably of Ballyhaise, Parish of Castleterra, Co Cavan, 1759; held the lease of a farm at Mullalougher, Co Cavan, from Col Thomas NEWBURGH of Ballyhaise; went to Dublin in 1777, at the urging of Martha, wife of William CRADOCK (Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin), widow of Col Thomas NEWBURGH of Ballyhaise, and daur of Henry CARY of Dungiven, Co Londonderry, & who had a "particular liking" for Letitia MAGUIRE alias PHAYRE. Thomas was appointed Sexton of St Patrick's Cathedral, in the room of Fergus GIBBONS, 21 Mar 1779, & while William CRADDOCK was Dean. Thomas married 6 Apr 1763, Letitia PHAIR, of Kilmore, Co Cavan. Their other issue, not yet identified in any memorial on this web-site, included: 1. Martha MAGUIRE, b Mullalougher, Co Cavan, 13 Jul 1765; marr St Audoen's, Dublin, 27 May 1783, Thomas BUCK, possibly her relation; they went to America, 23 Apr 1828, & probably settled in Canada West (Ontario). 2. Jean, b Mullalougher, 18 Nov 1767; died young. 3. John MAGUIRE, b Mullalougher, 28 Jul 1768; died young. 4. John (II) MAGUIRE, b Mullalougher, 20 May 1774; emigrated to America, Mar 1795; probably settled in Grenville Co, Canada West (later Ontario). 5. William MAGUIRE, b Mullalougher, 20 May 1777; died 1777.


Burial: Saint Patrick's Cathedral Dublin County Dublin, Ireland Plot: His own MAGUIRE Plot, Vicar's Bawn, adjacent to south wall of the Lady Chapel (right hand side of top photo). This grave was probably disturbed for foundation work, and the contents re-interred in his son Thomas MAGUIRE Jr's plot nearby (tabular stone, centre of top photo, detailed in 2nd photo).
