The Colbert genealogy speculates that Thomas Love was a Loyalist who took refuge in the Chickasaw nation and became a "trader". The genealogy also discusses a conflict in sources as to whether Love had one or two wives, referring to Sally Colbert, a daughter of Trader James Logan Colbert, or Sally Emahota Colbert, and Mahota, a full blood Chickasaw. There is reference to 13 children of Thomas Love. A love family historian says there were two wives, Sally and Emahota. Love is in the 1818 Chickasaw census for Holly Springs, Mississippi.
