Will of Thomas King of the county of Washington, dated 5 Jan 1802, proven 16 Dec 1807, mentions wife, sons William, James, Samuel; "children of my son and daughter Conally and Nancy Finlay", "my son and daughter John and Elizabeth Mitchell", "my son and daughter John and Hannah Allen". Thomas was alive in May 1807 when he sold his Fincastle estate, his wife having died.

  2.   The will of Thomas' son William, indicates William was raised by his grandmother, so it appears Thomas may have emigrated to the United States separately from William (who came over in 1784), leaving his son in Ireland. This impression is consistent with the anecdote of their reunion given by Source:Preston, Thomas L. Historical Sketches and Reminiscences of an Octogenarian, p. 159. The date of Thomas' emigration has not been determined yet. He was granted a merchants license 13 May 1787 "in Botetourt County, chiefly in the Town of Fincastle", per Source:Kegley's Virginia frontier : the beginning of the Southwest, the Roanoke of colonial days, 1740-1783, with maps and illustrations (71485), p. 410.
