  6. According to the Chelsea Pension papers, Thomas was born in Kidderminster. He enlisted at Kidderminster in the 62nd Foot Regiment on 19 March, 1814, at the age of 19. He served in the Army for 11 years 103 days (19 March 1814 to 29 June 1825). He was in the East or W. Indies from 30 July 1815 to 22 July 1819. He was discharged in consequence of "Pulmonic affliction(?) & opacity of the Cornea of Right Eye". He had been 2 (or 8?) months in hospital at the time of his discharge. His general conduct as a soldier was "irregular".
