[edit] NotesFrom Ancestry.com post: You are here: Message Boards > Surnames > Gist > Thomas Gist d. late 1807 Wilkes Co. GA, wife Elizabeth Re: Thomas Gist d. late 1807 Wilkes Co. GA, wife Elizabeth Ann Fourt (View posts) Posted: 14 May 2003 1:01AM GMT Classification: Query Surnames: Gist, Perkins, Barker, Cromwell Johnny, I found my Gist info in a book titled "Christopher Gist of Maryland and Some of His Descendants 1679 - 1957" by Jean Muir Dorsey and Maxwell Jay Dorsey (1957). The book's information seems to be pretty solid. It lists Henry C. (Cary) Gist and Thomas N. (Nathaniel) Gist as brothers, sons of Nathaniel Gist, son of Christopher, son of Richard, son of Christopher Gist (got that?) of Baltimore, MD. It looks pretty certain that these are the same two individuals listed in the power of attorney I found in Logan Co. KY. The book says that Henry C. Gist was born 1786 in Buckingham Co. VA and died 1833 Franklin Co. KY of cholera. Married April 6, 1808 to Ann Pace in Logan Co. KY. Henry C. Gist appears in various Logan Co. KY records. Supposedly Henry and Ann Gist had no children. There is more info in the book. Thomas N. Gist was born 1790 in Buckingham Co. VA and died 1841 in Hopkins Co. KY. Married (1) 1813 Ann Reed Barbour of Tyler Co. VA, (2) Polly M. Cox. Thomas Gist died September 1856 and his estate was inventoried April 1, 1863 in Hopkins County, KY. Thomas N. Gist and first wife Ann had nine children: Henry C. Gist b. 1814, Thomas Gist b. 1816, Maria Virginia Gist b. 1818, Elizabeth Gist b. 1822, Judith C. Gist b. 1824, Frances T. Gist (no date given), Cecil Gist b. 1833, and Helen H. Gist b. 1838. A lot of daughters! I haven't yet had time to go through the book and try to locate the Thomas Guest/Gist who is deceased in Wilkes Co. GA in the early 1800s, but he looks to be connected to this bunch. I still haven't figured out my connection to PERKINS yet, but I think it's there somewhere. I have CROMWELLs selling land to my PERKINS in Tazewell Co. IL in 1832, and they intermarried with GISTs back in MD. I found out that the Nathan Cromwell who sells land to Isaac PERKINS was a brother-in-law; his wife was a Barker, sister to Isaac's wife Jane Barker. Any info welcome, Ann References
