Facts and Events
Capt. Thomas Gillespie seems to have been married twice. His first wife appears to have been Virginia Vance, whom he married bef. 1776 had at least one child with, his second wife appears to have been Agnes Orr, whom he married on 11 Nov. 1788. More research may be necessary to prove that this is the same Capt. Thomas Gillespie that married both Virginia Vance and Agnes Orr.

Capt. Thomas Gillespie Posted By: Glenda Melson <gmelson@@webound.com> Date: Friday, 21 January 2000, at 12:02 a.m. I am searching for the ancestry of Capt. Thomas Gillespie. According to Dr. J. G. M. Ramsey in his book on Lebanon-in-the-Forks Church, "Capt. Thomas Gillespie was one of the early Elders of Lebanon, one of the original bench, I think; he came from Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and his wife was a [Virginia]Vance, I believe, from the same county, or perhaps from Guilford County, N. C. Capt. Gillespie had participated in the Revolutionary war." Later Thomas Gillespie was also an elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Knoxville. I am a descendant of their daughter Margaret who married William Black McNutt, son of George McNutt, also mentioned in Dr. Ramsey's book. |
