    Tradition gives the father three wives: Sarah, Rhoda and his widow Rachel. The last two are proved. The will of Robert Lane of Stratford dated 1712 bequeaths to "son in law Thomas Fitch as ye compleatment of my Daughter Elisabeths Portion" identifies his first wife as Elizabeth Lane and she was probably deceased by 1712.
