Facts and Events
Thomas Dugger was born ca 1786 or earlier. This is based on him witnessing a deed in 1800 and one had to be at least 14 to do that. On 30 Oct 1800 Hubbard Saunders, William Dugger and Thomas Dugger witnessed a deed from Jordan Richardson to Daniel Dugger. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 18 page 287). Thomas’ father John Dugger Jr made his Will on 9 Oct 1801 and named his “son Thomas Dugger” among his heirs. (Brunswick Co., VA Will Book 6 page 389). Thomas’ grandfather John Dugger Sr made his Will on 6 Apr 1802 and named his grandson Thomas Dugger among his heirs. (Brunswick Co., VA Will Book 6 page 467). On 26 Nov 1804 Thomas Dugger witnessed a deed from Daniel Dugger to Richmond Dugger (both of whom were his uncles). (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 19 page 206). In Mar 1807 court, Samuel Worthington sued Thomas Dugger and Daniel Dugger. The record stated that Thomas Dugger was not an inhabitant of “this commonwealth” meaning he no longer lived in Virginia. (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 22 page 119). Thomas Dugger moved to Tennessee around this time. Thomas Dugger made his Will on 24 Jul 1815 in Sumner Co., TN. It was proven in Nov 1815 so he was dead by then. In the Will he referred to himself as being of Wilson Co., TN. He named his wife Charlotte Dugger and his son Thomas Featherstone Dugger, an infant. He named Sterling Orgain and Hubbard Sanders as executors. Witnesses were Alexander Stark, Lucy Sims, Milly Connell and Elizabeth Connell. His widow Charlotte Young Dugger married Wesley Dugger on 15 Aug 1816 in Sumner Co., TN. Wesley was Thomas’ 2nd cousin once removed. |
