Victoria, I have not had too much of a chance to work on this line for some time. Thomas Cartmell(Cartmill/Cartmeille) was born in Virginia about 1750. He married Mary Warwick(Warrick) in Virginia about 1774. Thomas died about 1803/04 in Bath County, Kentucky. Mary Warick was the daughter of William Warwick. She was born in Virginia about 1755 and died in Bath County, Kentucky sometime after 1820. Their children were: 1.) Jennie Cartmell(Cartmill)---born in Virginia in 1775. She married John Crockett in Virginia. She died in Ralls County, Missouri in 1835. 2.) Andrew Cartmell(my ancestor)--born March 1776 in Greenbriar County, Virginia. He married Nancy D. Brown, daughter of Thomas Brown(court documents mention the children of Thomas Brown and their spouses, August 1822). Andrew died September 1832 in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. 3.) John Cartmell(Cartmill)---born 1779 in Virginia. He married Rebecca Hendricks in Virginia. He died in Illinois in 1856. 4.) Thomas Cartmell 5.) "Polly" Cartmell 6.) Samual Cartmell 7.) William Cartmell

Other Cartmell/Cartmill family members married into the Houston(Huston) and Black families in the Bath County Kentucky areas also. It appears that the Greenbriar County, Va. and Bath County, Ky areas are the locations where many of the Cartmell families settled before several branches moved into Illinois. Let me know if this what you are looking for. If you have any discrepancies or any additional information on this family please let me know. There is a book on the early pioneers of the Shannadoah(spelling??)Valley that mentions this Cartmell line. Hope this helps...Sincerely, Teresa Toohill-Runyon.

3. Thomas Cartmill - born about 1745. Married Mary Warwick 1769 in Augusta County. Thomas settled on the Greenbriar River in today's Greenbriar County, WV, about 20-30 miles west of the Cowpasture River where his father lived. Moved from the Greenbriar River of WV to Montgomery County, KY around 1790. Montgomery County, KY is just east of Lexington, KY. Thomas and his wife Mary sold their property on the Greenbriar River in 1803 while living in Kentucky. John Warwick handled the sale in VA for Thomas. Thomas died shortly after 1803 in Montgomery County, KY, apparent' no will. Many of Thomas's six sons and four daughters can be found in Bath County, KY after 1800. Bath County is the next county north of Montgomery County, KY. A few descendants moved to Madison County, OH in the early 1800s.
