Estate Records of Thomas Boyd

• Vol. 1 - INQUESTS. - Thomas Boyd (son of Andrew Boyd) died intestate, 10th March, 1800, without issue, and his heirs were the heirs of John White, nephew of Andrew Boyd.

• Vol. 1 - NOVEMBER 18, 1766. - (338) John Boyd and 115 acres added to tithables. Thomas Boyd and 248 acres added to tithables.

• Page 227.--9th January, 1782. James Fulton's estate appraised by James Brownlee, Robt. Doak, Thomas Boyd.

• Page 81.--20th August, 1788. Robert Campbell's will, hatter--To brother. George, all estate, and executor; to sister, Jennitt Campbell. Teste: Thomas. Fulton, Thos. Boyd, Wm. Vernum. Proved, December Court, 1793, by Fulton and Boyd. Executor qualifies.

• Page 67.--8th December, 1792. John Boyd's will--To Thomas Boyd, 10 shillings; to the lawful begotten heir of John White, deceased, 10 shillings: to wife, Elizabeth, lands for life and then to _____ _____; to John Varnum; to Hannah Varnum, to be paid by John Varnum at his mother's decease; to Rebecca Varnum; to Julian Varnum. Executors, Elizabeth Boyd and John Varnum. Teste: David Steele, Samuel Forsythe, John Purris. Proved, September Court, 1793, by Forsythe and Purris. Executors qualify. (Note: John Boyd was Thomas Boyd's brother).

• Vol. 1 - APRIL, 1793 (A to Q). - We, the undernamed jurors for the Commonwealth of Virginia, present that Alex. Sproul did, on the 18th day of January last, in the County aforesaid, unlawfully make a forcible entry into the house and possession of George Almarode, with arms, of which he was then possessed, and does continue to keep out the said Almarode, to his hurt and damage. In witness whereof the undernamed jurors have hereunto set their hands and seals this 13th day of February, 1792. (Signed) Francis Hull, John Summers, Robt. • Vol. 2 - Vernum vs. Vernum--O. S. 375; N. S. 137--Bill by William Vernum, that on 29th August, 1797, John Vernum, orator's brother, contracted with orator to build a house for orator on a lot in Greensville, but John shortly after removed to Kentucky, but before removing John sold to William Moore, of Rockbridge, all his interest in land in Augusta devised to him by John Boyd. John died in Kentucky, and administration was granted to John Hawkins and Elizabeth Vernum, now Elizabeth Foster. Patented 1759 to John Boyd, 115 acres in Augusta, corner Thos. Boyd. Patented 1743 to Andrew Boyd, 240 acres in Orange, on the west side of Blue Ridge, on branch of Stony Creek, Mr. Burden's road.

• Page 318.--13th January, 1798. John (mark) Davidson's will, plantationer--To son, John (infant); to wife, Sarah; to children, viz: Agnes Daugherty. Elizabeth Tankers (Tankersey), Sarah Davidson, Mary Davidson, Margaret Davidson; to son, Daniel; to granddaughter, Margaret Daugherty. Executors, wife Sarah and son-in-law Obadiah Tankersley. Teste: Robert Shaw, Thomas Boyd, John Hall. Proved, 16th October, 1798, by Shaw and Boyd. Executors qualify.

• Vol. 2 - 28th April, 1800--George Reed, administrator of Thomas Boyd. (Note: possibly this Thomas Boyd, needs additional research).

• Vol. 2 - White vs. Moore--O. S. 168; N. S. 59--Bill, June, 1808. Complainants are, viz: John, Nathaniel, James, William White, Margaret (White), wife of James McFarland (Note: other sources have Margaret's husband as Joseph McFarland), Rebecca (White), wife of William McFarland, Mary (White), wife of Robert Snodgrass, David Greenlee and his children (infants), heir of their mother Jane, who was Jane White, all being heirs and legal representatives of John White, who was only heir-at-law and legal representative of Thomas Boyd, who was son of Andrew Boyd, who died many years ago, leaving a tract in Augusta County, 240 acres. Andrew died testate in Augusta, devising to his wife and sons, Thomas and John. Andrew's widow died intestate and her part descended to Thomas, the eldest son. After Andrew's death, a patent issued in Andrew's name for an entry of his for 115 acres, but some one struck out Andrew and inserted John. John died testate, without issue, devising his lands to his wife, Elizabeth, for her life, with reversion to her son, John Varnum. Then Thomas Boyd died intestate, leaving complainants' his heirs. But Elizabeth Boyd and William Moore, who bought claim of Varnum, set up an adverse claim. Answer says Andrew Boyd died 1750. A patent for the 115 acres issued in 1759 in name of John, when he was not more than 12 or 15 years old. Andrew Boyd's will dated 26th February, 1749, proved in Augusta 22d May, 1750, to cousin, John White, if he came here to live. Wife, Rebecca.

• Vol. 2 - SEPTEMBER, 1816 (A to B). Timothy Hartigan vs. Thomas Boyd's administrator--Bond between plaintiff and defendant, 1797. Writ endorsed. T. Boyd is dead; suit wished in name of his administrator. George Reed is administrator of Boyd, who died intestate; people of name of White, in Kentucky, are his heirs. Boyd was related to the Whites through his mother.
