Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Image:BerryThomasBordenBeverley.JPG

Thomas Berry's land (Borden Tract NE bordering Beverley Manor SW, 4 Tracts: 1) 65 acres acquired from William Berry in 1753 (part of William Berry's 145-acre tract); 2) 168 acres acquired from Arthur Kennedy in 1755 (part of David Kerr's 368-acre tract sold to Kennedy); 3) 82 acres acquired from Robert Robinson and Isabella, his wife in 1754; and 4) 218-acres from Robert Robinson and Isabella his wife, in 1754 (listed as originally patented to James Shields, but conveyed to his son John Shields; but more likely the 298½ acres acquired by James Shields from Samuel McCutcheon in 1746)) as shown on the map meticulously drawn by J.R. Hildebrand, cartographer. This map is copyrighted©, used by permission of John Hildebrand, son of J.R. Hildebrand, April, 2009. Note: according to the Chalkley's record of tracts 3 & 4, listed below, these two tracts were adjoining each other. It is thought by this researcher that tract #4 was probably the 298½ acre tract acquired by James Shields from Samuel McCutcheon in 1746, which adjoined the "Beverley Manor Line", which was most likely the tract originally patented to Robert Robinson.

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:
