Theodore Coleman, born on 11 April 1838 in Butler County, Alabama, was the fifth child and third son of Abraham Womack Coleman and Mary Ringgold. He was probably born at home in the northwest section of Butler County known as the Ridge. The Ridge is near Lowndes County to the north and Wilcox County to the west.
