  25. ↑ The farm slopes to the lake, and there is a national monument on the site (a large granite pillar) commemorating "The birthplace of modern skiing" and Sondre Norheim, the father of modern skiing. The farm is now a ski-hotel, and the original house was greatly enlarged. Gloria Vesta Murphy and her husband visited there in 1963 and stayed at the hotel. An artist lived there and, from and old photo that hung in the lobby, he painted an oil painting of the original buildings. Gloria gave it to her father, Olaf Vesta, as a gift. After his death, Elaine took it and hung it in her home.
