The farm slopes to the lake, and there is a national monument on the site (a large granite pillar) commemorating "The birthplace of modern skiing" and Sondre Norheim, the father of modern skiing. The farm is now a ski-hotel, and the original house was greatly enlarged. Gloria Vesta Murphy and her husband visited there in 1963 and stayed at the hotel. An artist lived there and, from and old photo that hung in the lobby, he painted an oil painting of the original buildings. Gloria gave it to her father, Olaf Vesta, as a gift. After his death, Elaine took it and hung it in her home.
  26. He finished his apprenticeship as blacksmith shortly before marriage. Then they made their home on a small farm where he set up a shop and engaged in his trade, blacksmithing, for a number of years.

It was a patronymic based on his father's given name and, depending on the source, also appeared as Tollefsen, Tallievssen, and other variations of the name. The surname (or farm name), depending on the source, was Vesta, Vestå, Vestaa, or Versto.
