    Susannah, d/o John Hovey, b. 1674, d. 11 Nov 1699 aged 25, m. 30 Nov 1697 Ebenezer Averill.

There are confusing bits of evidence, but the conclusions of #S1 appear to be correct.

First, on p. 23, it says that the inventory of Ebenezer's estate says that things were reserved for "Luke the sunn of Susannah his first wife that came from Engl". This makes it sound like his wife came from England, making one question her identification as Susannah Hovey. However, this identification is correct, since on p. 22, the will of her father mentions his grandson "Luke Averhill". It appears that, on rereading, what came from England was the things reserved for Luke, not any of the people mentioned.

Source:Topsfield, Essex, Massachusetts, United States. Vital Records of Topsfield, Massachusetts, p. 203, says Averill, Susannah, d. Ebinesar and Susannah, [died] Nov. 11, 1699. This makes it appear that a daughter died on the given date, not the mother. There are death dates for a Susannah Averill in 1736 and another in 1749. However, neither of these is consistent with Ebenezer's death in 1717, and Ebenezer's marriage to Mehitable Foster in 1700, and her death as a widow in 1740. Given that Ebenezer and Susannah's son Luke was born 2 Aug 1699, Susannah could not have been giving birth again in Nov 1699, so we must assume the vital record is simply mistaken, there was no daughter Susannah, and the record applies to the wife of Ebenezer.
