Keeping house in 1870 in Warrick Co, Indiana in the household of Thomas Parker, with a woman named Hetta Williams. 1850 and 1860 census records show that Hetta was surely her mother; her father was John, who died before 1860, and Thomas is probably Hetta's son from a first marriage. They lived in Obion County, TN, which is where Susan and James were married.

She married in 1871 to William DeForest and had two more children.
