Susan was a sister of James Wallace's first wife. After James died in 1913, Susan remained in Glenham for 20 years. In April 1944 she was a resident of Wappinger Falls, NY, but soon moved to Beacon, NY, and then to Spring Valley, NY. In 1945 she moved to her son's home in Brewster, NY, and died there in a nursing home.

Susan was the originator of "Aunt Sue's molasses cookies", whose fame spread coast-to-coast among her family.
