Simeon Pine came to Ohio, in 1818, from New Jersey, walking all the way, and carrying his wallet on a stick. Upon arriving at Waynesville he had only his bull's eye watch, and thirty-seven cents in money. This was the sum total of his wealth, and the capital with which he began to make his way in life in what was then wild western country. His first work was as a farm laborer, and his wages $8 per month and board. After some time spent in this way he began raising crops on other people's land, and at length purchased 164 acres of land for himself. This purchase was made in 1836, and upon this farm he lived until 1855, when he died at the age of fifty-five. Simeon Pine was in politics a whig, was a believer in a tariff for protection and took great delight in discussing political questions. In religion he was a Quaker, as was also his wife, who survived him and who married a second time, to Samuel Kelly of Waynesville.

Simeon married Sarah Haines, his third cousin, in January of 1830, in Waynesville. In 1836, Simeon purchased a tract of 160 acres in Washington Township, Montgomery County, along the old toll pike road, which later was named Spring Valley Road. He purchased the tract on February 10, 1836, from William Stephens and his wife, Elizabeth, and paid $3,100. The tract was located in the SE qr Sec 36, T-3 R6 MR.

Simeon and Sarah moved their three small children there. Simeon may have built the log cabin on the property which was later used as a playhouse by his grandchildren. About the time of his death in 1855, the family erected a larger home at 441 W. Spring Valley Road. The house was completed in 1856.

Six children were born to Simeon and Sarah Pine, as follows: Susan, wife of James Sheehan; Clark; Mary; Rachel, wife of Jeremiah Campbell; William and Charles.

See "A Sense of Local History, Centerville, Ohio," a pamphlet, with an area map dated 1851, and with a place on the map for the location of Sim Pine, in Washington Twp.

He took in David S. Coon, 10 years, 7 months, 2 days on March 13, 1838 to apprentice in farming. David was the destitute son of Mary Ann Coon. His brother George Coon, age 6 was bound to David Sheehan, farmer.
