MRS. COATES DEAD

Mrs. Sarah V. Coates, wife of W. M. Coates, was buried in the Wynn cemetery April 1. She was sixty-six years of age, a member of the Robertsdale Christian church and by a former marriage the mother of two daughters, Mrs. Bishop who lives in Ohio, and Mrs. Gilbert C. Oscar. Mr. and Mrs. Coates had lately moved here and Mrs. Coates fell ill the day they came. It was Mrs. Oscar's wish to have her mother near her that she might assist in caring for her. Some time ago she became partially paralyzed and doubtless death to her was a happy release.

Mrs. Wm. Coates Dies in Foley, Alabama (From Monday's Daily)

From Foley, Alabama, has come word of the death of Mrs. Wm. Coates who succumbed to Bright's disease at an early hour last Wednesday. She was taken suddenly ill a week ago yesterday and fell into a deep stupor from which she did not awaken. Mr. and Mrs. Coates had just moved from Robertsdale, Ala., to Foley, and had lived there only a day when she was taken ill. The deceased, who was about 65 years of age, leaves husband and two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Bishop, of Canal Dover, Ohio, and Mrs. Gilbert Oscar, of Foley, Alabama, and is also survived by three brothers, Seth B., Philo W., and Gus Snyder, of our city. Mr. and Mrs. C were residents of our city until about 25 years ago, and previous to removing to Alabama about five years ago, had resided for several years at Finley, in northern Wisconsin.

____________________________________________________________________________________ Sarah died in March 1915, either Wednesday the 24th or Wednesday the 31st. In an April 6, 1915 letter from her daughter Stella to her other daughter Ina in Summerdale, Alabama - Stella writes of her concern in not having received a letter from Ina. She says that she thought Ina would have written on Friday, and therefore receive the letter on Monday. She tells of how she had received a letter from Ina on "Wednesday" morning regarding the "shock" that their mother had had, and then received a telegram from Ina at 10:30 a.m. (with the news of their mother's death). Stella's anxiousness for not having received a letter since Sarah's death and burial, combined with a burial date of April 1st, point to a death date of March 31st. Burial would not have occured eight days after death. It is more likely she was buried the next day.

I have not been able to locate a death record in Baldwin County or Mobile County Alabama. ____________________________________________________________________________________
