Facts and Events
This family lived in Alabama until 1860 when they came to Upshur County, Texas by way of ArkansasS1. It is recorded in Book E, p 48 that John S. Richey sold to George M Shearer an equal undivided interest of 160 acres of the Bounty warrant of Jesse Munford No 9543 issued to said Munford on the 3rd day of June AD 1840 by B F Archer, Secretary of War for 320 acres of land on 16 December AD 1853, Upshur County, Texas. This is believed to possibly be a family gift or a wedding gift to his sister and brother-in-law as John Stuart Richey was known for selling land to family members. They lived 6 or 7 miles southwest of Winnesboro (Wood County?) for some years. George served with the Confederacy during the Civil War. The are buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Chico, Wise County.
