    John Ensch, age 78, a resident of Clear Lake since 1921, died Wednesday, January 14 in Sedro-Woolley. He was born September 20, 1897 at Ramsey, North Dakota.
    His marriage to Sadie Phiefer took place in Mount Vernon in 1921 [sic].
    Mr. Ensch served with the U. S. Army during World War 1. He had been employed as a millwright, working in the lumber and shingle mills of this area, retiring in 1963.
    He was a member of the George Baldridge Post American Legion, Clear Lake Lodge No. 286 I.O.O.F., Cedar Crest Grange and a charter member of the Clear Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
    Survivors include his wife, Sadie, at the family home; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Jackie) Mooney of Seattle; one brother, Leon Ensch of Kennewick, a granddaughter, Nan Mooney of Seattle and a number of nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held Saturday, January 17 at the Lemley Chapel with past Lloyd Hawkins of the Clear Lake Community Covenant Church officiating. Casket bearers were Wm. Van Slagren, Dale Allen, Brick King, Lloyd Culver, Orville Tingley and Jack Turner. Interment followed in the Hawthorne Lawn Memorial Park in Mount Vernon.

    Leonard Phiefer
    Funeral services for Leonard Phiefer were held from the Chapel of the Bartleson-Wallin funeral Home Wednesday with the Rev. Raymond Heffernan of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church officiating. Interment followed in Maple Leaf Cemetery.
    Mr. Phiefer was born in Holland, Minn., Oct 25, 1900. He died suddenly at his home Nov. 23. He has been a resident of the Oak Harbor area since 1966
    He married Lenora Mitchell in Sedro-Woolley Aug. 13, 1946. Mr. Phiefer served with the U. S. Army during WW II and he was a member of George Morris American Legion Post of Oak Harbor.
    He is survived by his wife, Lenora, at the family home, three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Hamilton of Deming, Wash., Mrs. Madeline Raasina of Oceanside, Ore., and Ms Pamela Phiefer of Oak Harbor, one son, Leonard Phiefer with the U.S. Navy, stationed aboard the USS Hancock; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Knott of Arizona and Mrs Sada Ensch of Clear Lake, one brother, Clarence of Mt. Vernon, and five grandchildren.
    Pallbearers were Dennis Hamilton, Dean Hamilton, Bruce Chamberlain, Brant Raasina, Richard Stewart and Arthur Majarus.

    Sadie Ensch, 91, of Clear Lake, died July 14, 1995, at the Skagit Valley Convalescent Center. She retired as postmistress at the Clear Lake Post Office in 1965. Cremation was under the direction of Lemley Chapel. Interment was at Hawthorne Lawn Memorial Park.
