He is on the 1900 census, age 18 , with widowed father and younger sister in Harrison, Mercer Co., Mo.[ED 113, p 6B, fam #117/ 119] He married Etta GAY before 1904 in Mo. She was born 17 Jan 1882[SS] in Mo. Etta died 30 Apr 1968 in Ks.[SS] Her last reported residence in Peabody, Marion Co., Ks. 1920 census finds "Sanferd Rittiger", 38, in Roxbury, Gypsum Creek Twp., McPherson Co, Ks. He has with him wife Ettie, 37, and five children, plus his uncle Peter "Rittiger" (#12.B), age 77.[ED 67, p 6A, fam #76/76] Family story tells us he remained on Uncle Peter Rittgers' estate in McPherson Co., Ks.
