    "Capt. Samuel2 Talcott (John1), born about 1635, died at Wethersfield, Conn., 10 Nov. 1691, aged 56. … He was graduated at Harvard College in 1658.

    He was Commissioner (Justice) for Wethersfield, 1669 to 1684 inclusive. He served as Deputy for Wethersfield to the Connecticut General Assembly at the sessions of Oct. 1669, May and Oct. 1670, May 1671, May and Oct. 1672, May and Oct. 1673, May and Oct. 1674, May 1675, May and Oct. 1676, May and Oct. 1677, May and Oct. 1678, May and Oct. 1679, May and Oct. 1680, May and Oct. 1681, Oct. 1682, May, Oct. and Nov. 1683, May and Oct. 1684. He was Secretary pro tem., Oct. 1684. He was an Assistant of the Colony, 1685 to 1691, until his death. He was a member of the War Council, Oct. 1675 and May 1676, during King Philip’s War. In Oct. 1669 he was granted 200 acres.

    In May 1677, he was chosen Lieutenant of the Wethersfield Train Band; Lieutenant of the Hartford County troop, Oct. 1679; and Captain of the Troop, Oct. 1681 and June 1689.

    The will of Samuel Talcott of Wethersfield, dated 22 Apr. 1691, gave to his wife, Mary, £10 per annum and the use of a lower room and other liberties in accordance with a prenuptial contract, so long as she remains a widow; to son, Samuel Talcott, the south side of my homelot and other lands; to son, John Talcott, part of my homestead; to sons, Eleazer Talcott, Joseph Talcott, and Benjamin Talcott, specified lands. 'To my son Benjamin Talcott, half of my Land on the East side of the Connecticut River …, part of my Undivided Land lately purchased of the Indians on the East side of the River, also 200 acres given me by the General Court near Middletown Bounds.' 'I give to my son Nathaniel Talcott half my Lott at Naubuck' To daughter, Hannah Chester, £90; and to daughter, Rachel, £80. Son Samuel to be executor, and Capt. Robert Welles and Ensign Samuel Butler to be overseers. Inventory taken 21 Dec. 1691; £2180.01.06. The will was holographic and unwitnessed. It was presented with the inventory, 23 Jan. 1691/2; 'and his hand being so well known, he having wright it all with his own hand, the Court accepted of it, together with the Inventory.'"

    Talcott, Capt. Samuel, Wethersfield. Died 11 November, 1691. Invt. £2180-01-06 (£361-01-06 Personal Estate and £1820 in Lands). Taken 21 December, 1691, by John Deming, Daniel Rose, Benjamin Churchill & Nathaniel Foote. Will dated 22 April, 1691.

    I Samuel Talcott of Wethersfield doe make this my last Will & Testament: I bequeath unto my wife Mary £10 per Annum and the Use of one lower room in my house, which she shall choose, with convenient Celerage and Use of an Oven or ovens in the same, with suitable Land for a Garden as she shall desire, and the Keeping of one Cow both Winter and Summer. All these particulars specified are according to our Contract & Agreement before marriage, and to continue only during her Widowhood. I give to my son Samuel Talcott the south side of my Homelott, which lott butts upon High Street West, the Great Meadow East, John Deming’s Land North, Thomas Bunce his Homelott South, with the House, Great Barn, & the Buildings thereon; Land in the Great Meadow, bought of Samuel Sherman; Land in the Wet Swamp, bought of Richard Gildersleaue; also Land that butts upon Thomas Williams and William Colfax, other Land adjoining John Nott, and Land against Capt. Robert Welles. To my son John Talcott I give part of my Homelott, part of that Lott which was Mr. Crabb’s, butting on High Street West, on the Meadow East, Siding on Mr. John Deming’s Homelott North, and Samuel Talcott South; Lands bought of Mr. Richard Lawes. I give unto my son Eleazer Talcott Land in the West Field adjoining William Goodrich; Land in Beaver Meadow and my 50-acre Lott in the West Division, next Farmington Bounds. I give to my son Joseph Talcott, 30 acres in the West Field and 12 acres I bought of Samuel Sherman. To my son Benjamin Talcott, half of my Land on the East side of the Connecticut River bought of Mr. Samuel Sherman and Mr. Richard Gildersleaue, part of my Undivided Land lately purchased of the Indians on the East side of the River, also 200 acres given me by the General Court near Middletown Bounds, joining Mr. Willis his Land and Mr. John Whiting. I give to my son Nathaniel Talcott half my Lott at Naubuck. I give unto my daughter Hannah Chester £90, and to my daughter Rachel £80. I appoint my son Samuel to be Executor, and desire Capt. Robert Welles and Ensign Samuel Butler to be Overseers.
