Samuel Starr was born 24 NOV 1859. Samuel died 17 DEC 1886 at age 27. He married Myra Belle Shirley date unknown. Myra was born 5 FEB 1848 in Jasper County, Missouri. Myra was the daughter of Judge John Shirley and Eliza _____. Myra died 3 FEB 1889 at age 40. Sam Starr roamed with the Younger gang, with Frank and Jesse James, and other outlaws, avenging the assassination of James Starr, his grandfather. He took up residence at Younger's Bend in Cherokee Indian Territory north of the Canadian River. In 1880, a young widow with a small girl named Pearl came to Youger's Bend seeking a husband for her illegitimate daughter fathered by Cole Younger. Sam Starr was her ultimate choice and he married Myra Belle Reed nee Shirley. Later she became known as the outlaw Belle Starr. Belle and Sam joined other outlaws in horse stealing and were caught and subsequently sentenced by a Federal Court judge to a year in prison at Detroit, Michigan. After their release they returned to Younger's Bend where Sam Starr was shot to death in a fight with a policeman.
