"1903 Capt. Samuel Southworth4 [William3, Constant2, Edward1], b. 26 Dec, 1690; d. 1758, in Stratford, Ct.; m. Abigail _____. He was a resident of Bristol, R. I., until after 7 March, 1722-23, at which date he, as living in Bristol, sold land. Samuel, his son, was born in Lyme, Ct., so he must have moved there just before his son's birth. About 1749 he was in Lyme, Ct., and soon after he probably moved to Stratford, Ct., where he died. In 1730, the Connecticut Assembly voted 'Mr. Samuel Southworth of Lyme to be Captain of the first company of train band in the town of Lyme aforesaid.'"
