About Samuel "Sam" Reicher
Samuel "Sam" Reicher was born 15 February 1893 [or 1895], likely in Austria [or Russia]. Prior to 1920, Sam emigrated to America and was located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, where he was included in the 1920 and 1930 U.S. Census. He stayed in Cuyahoga County, Ohio for several years, migrating to Los Angeles County, California prior to 1935, and was included in the 1940 U.S. Census at age 47 with his wife Anne (age 47) and children Lillian (age 26), Blanche (age 22), Norman (age 19) and Arthur (age 17). His occupation was listed as a "Sales Manager", he is listed as completing 8th grade as his highest grade completed and did not attend college.
 Prior to 1945, Sam along with his brother Herman founded Southern California Supermarket chain "Better Food Markets", a multi-store independent grocer that operated until it split into two groups in 1955. Samuel's son Arthur "Art" Reicher took several of the former Better Foods Markets stores and formed the "Kory's Market Group" which operated until Art Reicher sold those stores to "Boys Markets" in 1973.
Samuel Reicher passed away in June 1983, but his contributions to the Southern California supermarket industry will not soon be forgotten.
