In the early teens, he was working with the Missouri Public Service Commission as a civil engineer. He first started dating Amelia on a bet and they were married during WWI. SR had applied for a commission, but the Army called him from Carthage, IL. He eventually went into service in May 1918 and went overseas in July. He came back in 1919 and they moved to St. Louis until Sam was born in 1920. SR’s father was urging him to come back to Carthage and they finally agreed. In Carthage, he operated the Morrow Milling Company. References
