Origins

Ancestry of Robert Abell (p. 43), believes Samuel Kitcherel was "probably son of Joseph Ketcherel, who on May 15, 1639 was given half acre of land at Winter Harbor, Salem, for fishing and was living at Charlestown in 1643." But this has not been confirmed.

"Shortly after the presumed death of Joseph Ketcherell at Charlestown in 1638, a man of the same name appears in Salem. On 15 April 1639, 'Joseph Kedgerer desires accommodation" at Salem [STR 1:86]. On 5 May 1639, 'Joseph Kitcherell' was admitted to Salem church (with the later annotation 'dead' [ScHR 8]. On 15 May 1639, the town of Salem 'granted to Joseph Kitcherill half an acre at Winter Harbor if he employ it in fishing' [STR 1:88]. No further record of this man is found at Salem (or anywhere else in New England)."[3] This information does not confirm nor preclude the notion that Samuel was son of Joseph, but provides another data point. Anderson concludes that Joseph of Charlestown and Joseph of Salem were two different men.

Life in New England

Colonial & Continental Ancestors, p 127: SAMUEL KITCHEREL, variously recorded as Ketcherwell, Ketchering, Kecherell, Kritchwell, Ketchell, Cretchwell, etc., etc., was at Hartford, Connecticut, in 1644, when he was granted a house lot there. With him was his wife, MARTHA, who, after Kitcherel's death in 1650, married Anthony Dorchester of Springfield, Massachusetts.
