    "The probate records give the date of death as September 9, 1701, but this is the date that Mercy Fosdick, Samuel's wife, was appointed administratrix of the estate. Caulkins gives the date as August 27, 1702, which is the date the inventory of the estate was approved. Lewis Fosdick gives August 27, 1700, but cites no authority."
